Looking for an all-purpose hooded cloak pattern that works for characters from Gandalf the Grey to Edward Elric? You'll want to check out our Hooded Duster Coat Pattern! It now includes new options so you can repurpose the pattern for making any number of costume cloaks.
This pattern has been recently completely overhauled from being the pattern we called 'Alchemist's Coat' to be the 'Hooded Duster Coat'. The original duster coat pattern was one of our most popular early releases and we couldn't help but notice over the years the many creative ways customers were utilizing this pattern. Since it was one of our very first pattern releases, it was due for an update... and why not make it easier to use for multiple projects?
It now offers a variety of sleeves, hoods, and lengths. It's not just good for Full Metal Alchemist cosplays anymore- You can use it for anything from Jedi Cloaks to Lord of the Rings costumes!
Add-ons pattern pieces now include:
- 3 Sleeve Styles (Straight Sleeve, Bell Sleeve or Drape Sleeve)
- 2 Hood Types (Standard Hood or Gathered Oversized Hood)
- 2 Lengths (Calf Length or Floor Length)
Not every costume project needs to tailored to win a contest best in show. Sometimes you need a project done fast. We're with you on this, so this pattern is now designed to scale in polish. You can choose to bag line the duster coat to create a fully finished garment or simply add-in new optional facing pieces for a halloween party, bar crawl, rave, or weekend costume project.
The pattern is also now listed as an 'All Gender' pattern to better reflect the fact that this design suits all sorts of body types! You'll want to choose your size based primarily on your chest circumference for the best possible fit, then tailor the hem height to meet your project's needs.
The sewing pattern uses modern set-in sleeves and pattern markings. This sleeved cloak is part of our ‘Made to Modify’ series, pattern blocks designed to be easy to modify and combine for cosplay. A hooded duster coat block makes a great starting point for creating multiple styles of sleeved cloaks and robes, so we hope you'll get plenty of use out of it!
