Free Peanut Pillow Pattern

Need an actually, factually, 100% FREE sewing pattern (with no strings attached) to practice your sewing skills with or teach someone else to sew? Come get our PDF peanut pillow pattern! It's fun to say and to make.
This pattern is a PDF print-at-home sewing pattern of a bone pillow with side cords. Like the rest of our patterns, the PDF prints on both Letter and A4 paper. You don't need different versions for different paper sizes. It's only 9 pages so it won't set you back much in the way of paper and ink. You can make one pillow with 1 yard of fabric (or 3/4 yard if it is wide fabric.)
I was inspired to make this pattern as a teaching tool thanks to one of the first sewing assignments I had to complete many years ago as a student. In our theater program, in order to be allowed to move off of ironing duty and up to zipper duty we had to breeze through projects like this one.
Sewing this style of pillow requires a set of useful skills that routinely show up in garment making, which makes it a very good project for beginners to attempt before moving on to clothes. Think of it as a confidence booster. Completing this project means you'll be less iffy with a sewing machine AND you'll have a useful travel pillow!
Tasks you'll do to complete this pillow:
- Sewing straight lines
- Sewing curved lines
- Clipping and notching
- Basting
- Turning
- Hand sewing an invisible stitch
As I was drafting this project I realized my bone shape was much more peanut-esque, so it's a peanut pillow now.
We're not charging for this sewing pattern or asking you to sign up for anything to get it. (To be honest, we're not the best at remembering to send out promo mailers to subscribers anyways, but I digress.) Just click the download button and fire up Acrobat Reader. This freebie is on us- have fun with it, practice sewing if you are rusty, teach a family member with it, make something out of scrap fabric, upcycle some old clothes- in general, go nuts with it!
Since it is a free pattern, it's also free of any customer support. Responding to support requests for free goods is a one way ticket to burnout, so we won't be doing that. However, you can find tutorials for just about any sewing technique on Youtube these days. Maybe one day I'll make one for sewing this pillow to throw on there.
Until then, have a good time making peanuts! ←That's the download link.
