Nice to meet you! We're a pair of seasoned costume makers working to design the kinds of patterns and crafting resources we wish we could have had when we first started sewing!

Our Process

Prototyping

Using traditional drafting techniques, our paper patterns are recreated in CAD & 3D modeling software, where we prototype and refine a pattern's design.

Our Process

Construction

After a design has been manually graded, tested, and cleaned up as vector files, we get to work on creating easy to use printable PDF documents and instructions.

Our Process

Focused on Quality

We believe that what you see is what you should get from a pattern. That is why we do not sell algorithmically generated designs. Each pattern has been crafted by human hands through every stage in its design.

Design Process

✏️✂️ Using traditional drafting techniques, our paper patterns are recreated in CAD & 3D modeling software CLO3D, where we test our prototype and refine the design.

🖥️📏 After a design has been manually graded into one of our size runs using our custom grading rules, it is tested again, then refined as vector files in Adobe Illustrator.

🖨️📃 Once the pattern is complete, we proceed to creating easy-to-use printable documents using our own custom-designed template that has been formatted to tape together in rows so that it can be assembled on a dining room table.

📝 Finally, we finish our production process by illustrating the accompanying instruction document in Adobe Illustrator and writing the assembly steps.

🚫🤖 We do not sell algorithmically generated designs. Each pattern has been crafted by human hands through every stage in its design.

What We Offer

Now more than ever, sewing patterns of every kind are easy to find online, but not all are made the same way.

What sets our manually made sewing patterns apart from drag-and-drop, template-made, or AI-generated patterns is the consideration and perspective we bring as experienced sewists & costume makers. A considerable amount of effort is invested in our patterns, from the base concept to the finished product.

Each pattern is thoughtfully designed, thoroughly tested, and continually revised over several months to add value to your pattern stash. We want you to be able to use and reuse our patterns for years to come. That's why we never sell auto-generated pattern files made with ‘instant’ or ‘quick’ design software.

Our mission statement is: Let's create simple, useful, and modular patterns that are easy to modify.

Get to know the Made with Maridah team

Hi, I'm Rachel, known online as Maridah! I'm an AuDHD costume maker and former gaming industry professional living in New England with my spouse, Kevin, aka HayabusaKnight.

Kevin and I are both long-time cosplayers- it’s how we met! Together we run Made with Maridah, our small business designing sewing patterns for costuming, alt fashion, and hobbies. The small Etsy store that started as a spin-off from our cosplay blog has grown into our vocation. This is, in large part, thanks to the support of wonderful crafters who’ve worked with our patterns as we’ve grown this business!

Formerly the home of my free cosplay resources, Maridah.com is now a portfolio site featuring a small collection of the cosplay photos Kevin and I produced together over the years. We’ve republished some of our most popular blog content on our store blog to make it easier for our crafters to find.

HayabusaKnight cosplaying as Howl from Howl's Moving Castle

Meet our Manager

Kevin aka HayabusaKnight is a cosplayer with years of costuming under his belt. He picked up sewing early from his household, learning skills passed on to him by several generations of tailors and theater staff, which fostered in him a love of crafting. Frequently selected in years past as ACE's Featured Male Cosplayer on American Cosplay Paradise, he has created an enormous amount of props and costumes for himself and others. His years as a cosplayer, commissioner, and small business owner make him invaluable when brainstorming new patterns, assisting in product testing & development, and staying on top of our social media & customer support.
